Talbot Commons Pocket Hotel
Taylor’s first hotel in downtown for over 40 years. This is intended to be a gathering space for residents and visitors alike. The outdoor courtyard is for special events and provides a welcome front porch for each of the eleven guest rooms.
This eleven room boutique hotel is a quaint destination for visitors to historic downtown Taylor. Located halfway between the business core of downtown and the historic Old Taylor High, this project connects these two epicenters of Taylor and creates a walkable-bikable place to visit. The individualized rooms maintain much of the character of the original Fellowship Hall and Sunday School Classrooms while simultaneously providing a modern approach for hospitality in every room.
The rooms have mini-bars stocked with Texas treats and bathrooms include soaps made nearby. The overall building is focused on creating a highly sustainable architecture reusing the primary building along with elements to be seen everyday such as the wood flooring and wood headboard all made from reclaimed wood. The rooms also have energy efficient lighting fixtures and low-use water fixtures. The fountain and landscape irrigation uses water from the rainwater collection tank. This is a project with only street parking to reduce rainwater run-off and better utilize existing resources.
